New Style

Forum
There is now a very unique forum feature available to all Local Portal sites. This forum is for registered members only, and is available on all purchased accounts. You have control in the admin to add/edit categories, and will soon be able to monitor your whole forum.

Classifieds
The classifieds are now pulled in via Craigslist. This is still in BETA, and there will be a better way to browse and search classifieds soon.

No More Ads
There are no more admob, google, or my own personal ads on Local Portal. This is to try to strum up local advertising. If someone contacts us about advertising on a site you have listed with us, you will get 80% of the advertisement sale. Our ad serving software will then be integrated of the site(s) of the clients choice.

We will consult with you before any transactions are made. You have the final say in the end.

First and foremost, you need to get an application key for your site. You can do so at Google’s website ( http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html ).

After you have your application key, it’s as easy as adding an image to your website:

The $gzoom variable get’s the current zoom value, and adds it to Google’s Map Image. Then we add 2 to zoom in, and subtract 2 to zoom out, and display the links. Easy? Yep!

Hi Folks,

I just finished ExchangeRates.mobi, a domain I bought from a member here a week ago.

This is another very useful and highly versatile site. It can convert between 173 currencies, including precious metals and obsolete currencies (e.g. old European currencies, pre-Euro).

“Exchange Rates” has 1 million exact searches per month on Google, so it’s in demand, particularly from travelers, which is what drove me to build it, especially since I could not find a fast, free, and user-friendly exchange rate and currency converter site for mobiles (if you can’t find it, build it!).

Like most of the mobile sites I develop, it has some neat URL tricks which make mobile access a lot faster since the forms can be skipped altogether:

Quick View: To quickly view the most common exchange rates for a particular currency, you can simply use its 3-letter code directly in the URL preceded by a slash like this:

http://ExchangeRates.mobi/USD

Quick FX Rate: To quickly view an exchange rate for a pair of currencies, you can simply pair their 3-letter codes up in the URL with a dash like this:

http://ExchangeRates.mobi/USD-EUR

Quick Convert: To quickly convert an amount between currencies, you can skip the form at the bottom and go straight to the converted amount via the URL by following the currency pairs with a slash and an amount like this:

Customize: To customize ExchangeRates.mobi and view your selected exchange rates, you can pair them all up in the URL separated by slashes like this:

You can then BOOKMARK that page for quick access to your custom list. No login or cookies required.

The drop-down menus are also pre-sorted with quick access to the 14 most traded currencies plus the 4 BRIC currencies.

I’ve designed the site without tables for maximum compatibility across all mobiles and it scores a 5/5 as usual.

So, I partnered up with a long time friend to create my first adult social network. The hardest part was coming up with a name that could be remembered easily. We settled on one of his domains, Titts.mobi. Why Titts? Why not, it’s short, and easy to remember. Plus it’s a great keyword to base an adult site around. Mainly we are going for traffic and interactivity between members to ensure the site doesn’t get stale. However, we require that everyone be 18 to view the site, so we enforce a signup link right on the homepage before the content can be viewed.

So we have our name, now we need the content. As a core, I used the Social Networking Script from Scripter.mobi, and heavily modified it to suite the member galleries. I also added multiple chat rooms, live status updates, a smooth icon set, sending gifts through a private messaging system, and a few other bells and whistles.

Okay, the content is here! Now we need members. But, we need members that are willing to upload photos of themselves for others to rate and comment. So, we ran $10 on admob, and got around a 150 member turnaround, which wasn’t bad. Also had about 5% of those people upload photos to be rated.

We’re on the right path! It was very fun to watch all of the new members signup during the admob campaign. Two days later we are up to 800+ members, with around 70 photos, and a huge chat archive, with the member list growing every day.

Now, had this been just a regular social network, we may not have been so successful with it. We add new features every day, and get our members interested. We always welcome their feedback.

The purpose of this post was to give a little bit of insight of my first baby steps into the Adult Mobile world. So far I’m very happy with the results. For my site, when someone adds a bookmark, it posts their site title, description, and keywords into my database, and then adds it to the home page. While that code is happening, I simply use this Twitter PHP code to send the tweet.

Where it says “USERNAME:PASSWORD” , put in your Twitter Username, and Twitter Password.

Then you simply put in this code after all of your PHP functions have happened.
